Frequently asked questions

Do I need a credit card to try TournaChess?

No. The Free plan is genuinely free and never asks for payment information. Sign up, create a club, and run your first tournament right away. You can upgrade later if you outgrow the Free plan's tournament size.

Can I change plans later?

Yes — upgrade or downgrade any time from the billing page in your club settings. Upgrades take effect immediately with a prorated charge; downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

What's the platform fee?

When you collect tournament entry fees through Stripe, TournaChess takes a small platform fee out of the payout: $0.50 per paid registration on Free, $0.25 on Club, and $0 (none) on Pro. In a Per Round tournament, where players pay for individual rounds, the fee applies to each round paid for. Players are charged the entry fee you set and nothing more; the fee comes off your side, alongside Stripe's own processing fee. If you don't charge entry fees, there's no platform fee to worry about — it only applies when money actually changes hands, and it's waived entirely on any payment too small to carry it alongside Stripe's processing fee.

Is there a per-user charge?

No. Pricing is per club, not per user. Add as many tournament directors, admins, and members as you need — the subscription price doesn't change.

What counts toward the 16-player cap on Free?

The cap is per tournament, measured across all sections combined. Unlimited tournaments — just up to 16 players each. If you routinely run larger events, the Club or Pro plans remove the cap entirely.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Cancel from the billing page and you'll keep your paid features through the end of the current billing period. After that, your club returns to the Free plan — all your data stays intact.
